The CAD Import Module greatly simplifies the transition from geometric designs created with specialized CAD tools to the simulation environment of COMSOL Multiphsyics™ and its modules. This transition involves the automatic and user-interactive repair of geometries as well as interactive defeaturing—the removal of small details, such as sliver faces, fillets and spikes.

Based on the Parasolid® geometry kernel, the CAD Import Module also includes ACIS® to support the SAT® format. Further supported formats can be seen in the below table. Another highlight of the module is the live synchronization it allows between COMSOL Multiphysics and the SolidWorks® CAD environment.
Finally, the CAD Import Module works with optional add-ons dedicated to a variety of CAD formats including: Pro/ENGINEER®, CATIA® V5, CATIA® V4, VDA-FS, and Autodesk Inventor®. This array of options results in added flexibility that streamlines the complete design and modeling process from start to finish.
